Birds and dreams and moonbeams

A Wing and a Prayer

Woke up. Fell out of bed. Nothing to comb. Turned off the security alarm and went out on the balcony. Misty morning.

Movement in the garden shrubs. Put on my glasses for a sharper view. A rat? Binoculars reveal a robin, rooting for grubs.

The last couple of busy weeks, I’ve had a “Miscellaneous Monday” post in mind. Yesterday, I consolidated the idea with another photo, made during a Sunday drive. Mental notes at 3am, by moonlit insomnia.

Turn on the computer while the coffee brews. Pick a tabletop to declutter. File some negatives (when did I put those there, anyway?) In a glassine sleeve marked BIRD I find 36 exposures dedicated to today’s subject — never contacted, never scanned, never printed.

Synchronicity wins the day.

Technical — Camera: Nikon FM | Film: Ilford HP5 | Dev: Unrecorded (probably Microphen 1:1) |  Light: from the big window on W. 10th Ave., West Point Grey | Digital reproduction — Scanned with Epson Perfection V750 Pro, edited in Photoshop

    • Raymond Parker - At some point, I must have hurriedly labelled this sleeve (the negs never made it to transparent, archival polyethylene page). More recently, I made another start on organizing odds and ends, which is how they probably ended up in a pile on one of my cabinets. It’s a life’s work in itself. 🙂August 3, 2020 – 11:41 amReplyCancel
