Vancouver Island is humpy. Not surprising, since it is primarily made of the Wrangellia crust, an Equatorial migrant that collided with the North American continent about 100 million years ago. A couple of other rocky renegades, the Pacific Rim and Crescent terranes crashed the party causing granite and gneiss to erupt from the basement, forming Victoria’s varied landscape.
Yesterday, we visited the corrugation named Mount Tolmie. This morning, I decided to make Victoria’s bumps something of a challenge within this photo challenge. My mountaineering days are over, but these hills do not require ropes and crampons.
This little gulley, topped with a young Garry oak called to me on Peacock Hill. Look at me! I am stone and lichen and moss. I am the life that sprang from fire at the centre of the Earth.
