On the trail of a recalcitrant quail

Return visitors will know that when I’m not making photographs (or books), you’ll likely find me in the garden … often making photographs or, as in this case, video.

Gardening, and the brute labour that goes into it, is a welcome change from the exacting and sometimes tedious work of editing and post-processing that goes into photography, not to mention printing and presentation that wouldn’t go well with compost and soil.

But even in the garden I like to mix it up. And if it wasn’t enough work excavating tonnes of soil in preparation for a retaining wall and greenhouse, I have recently been distracted by another long-term project: establishing a switchback path down the steep and untamed lower part of our property, where we have lived for one year as of yesterday.
