Roundabout, 2020
Tethered to various intravenous tubes and electronic monitors, this was my view from a private room (necessitated by Covid protocol more than any special treatment) in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, at the end of October.
Drugged as I was, the ingrained impulse to organize visual elements on a screen seems to have survived the malady that brought me to the hospital and the emergency surgery that has hopefully given me a few more kicks at the can of life.
This photo came at the end (I hope) of an endless summer of circumambulations of the roundabout it pictures (the visit that led to this view entered by the back door, top left).
On the horizon is the landscape I much prefer to inhabit, or view from home. My convalescence has revolved around preparing myself and my gear to spend much more time breathing in its beauty and health-enhancing serenity.
As we slip back into the maw of Covid-19, I count my lucky stars and the view celebrated in the post linked above.
Above all, I salute the front line medical workers — paramedics, doctors, surgeons, nurses, medical imaging technicians, porters, lab technicians, food services, janitorial staff — whose steady hands and caring support returned me to my home alive. They are amazing heroes in this frightening time (not part of a global psyops plot by the Illuminati to enslave us … cretins!) Imagine this year, without their bravery and dedication to society. We can only hope they survive this annus horribilis in tact.
Lynn - Wish we were closer…I can’t bear the thought of losing you. Please still be there when the world turns right side up again.December 7, 2020 – 11:12 am
Raymond Parker - Well, now the sense of mortality stalks us all. I guess there’s never been a better time to follow that dictum (and I remember well sitting on the swinging bed in in the Big Cabin, perusing the famous book that took its title from the idea ) “Be Here Now.”
There’s really no other option, even during a pandemic. But then, I just reminisced, didn’t I? 🙂
Hope you are well. ❤️December 7, 2020 – 11:37 am
Amanda Jones - A good view , and I agree with you about the covidots .December 7, 2020 – 10:53 am
Raymond Parker - It’s hard to fathom, isn’t it, how anyone could avoid reality to come to the conclusion that all the medical professionals in the world could be part of some grand Machiavellian scheme to enslave us? It defies what most of us accept as reality. But that’s what conspiracy theory relies on amongst dupes to survive — the very fact that most normal people live in a reality-based world is proof to the brainwashed that they are privy to some “special” intelligence (in both senses) and the rest of us are unwitting participants in the conspiracy.
It never occurs to them that they might be caught up in a plot spread through social media by foreign psyops agents. It’s a strange time we’re living in.December 7, 2020 – 11:07 am
Brian Hay - My med students are secretly plotting against me I think. They’re always talking amongst themselves and wearing a white smock. Definitely not cool!December 23, 2020 – 10:25 am
Raymond Parker - Never trust a white-smock-wearing gossipmonger. That’s what I say.December 23, 2020 – 12:21 pm
