Two new shows, opening this week

Courtney Standing, Artist, Sooke Fine Arts Show, 2019

My work will be in 2 new shows this week.

Sooke Fine Arts Show

The 2020 Virtual Sooke Fine Arts Show opens this Friday, July 24, at 9am. The longest running juried art show on Vancouver Island celebrates its 34th anniversary this year with a somewhat unorthodox version of the event — online. And we’ll be there!

We’ll miss the artists’ demonstrations, music concerts, local food and the gift shop, not to mention resident and tourist traffic. But organizers have done an admirable job of responding to the pandemic with a virtual show representing over 200 artists.

Admission is free. However, there is a “Purchasers’ Preview” available today at 7pm, with a $25 entry fee, for early birds who want a first shot at the hundreds of artworks available. Access both via the link above.

Feature show at the Crooked Goose Bistro, Victoria

Opening on Monday (hung by Sunday, July 26), this show will feature a selection of my Victoria urban images. The Crooked Goose, at 4136 Wilkinson Road, is the sister bistro to the Heron Rock in James Bay, where I had a show in 2015. The show will run through to September.

We hope you’ll be able to check out one, or both, of these two great venues.
