Nanaimo Railyards, 1996
His body black as Erebus
Accorded with the hue of night;
His central eye self-luminous
Threw out a cone of noon-day light,
Which split the gloom and then flashed back
The diamond levels of the track.
No ancient poet ever saw
Just such a monster as could draw
The Olympian tonnage of a load
Like this along an iron road;
Or ever thought that such a birth—
The issue of an inventor’s dream—
With breath of fire and blood of steam,
Could find delivery on this earth.
~E. J. Pratt, No. 6000
Tom Hocking - I EXPECT SHELDON COOPER WOULD BE A BIG FAN of yours (He loved all things about trains!). Img definitely evokes twentieth century culture. All those steel rails may be trans-formed by 2050. Cabooses only found in museums. Or at least ALL RAIL transport will use electricity; no more diesel locomotion. I predict the inevitable return of nuclear powerplants producing the electricity all the people will need. Unless some body discovers (clean!) “cold fusion”…. Good luck to all those who live into the first century of the 2000s!December 24, 2019 – 1:53 pm
