Twilight Oaks
If some capricious god told me I had to choose between the survival of oak trees and larch that might precipitate an existential crisis. As it is, besides my “pet” larches, I live amongst Garry oaks (which, at this point, should be granted their own tag, I suppose).
Really, the problem lies in the fact that I’m torn between the mountain landscapes of the Interior and the temperate forests and shores of the coast, but I can’t afford to keep a country home in the Kootenays.
Speaking of crises, the important package I was awaiting yesterday didn’t arrive. I’d been tracking it from it’s 8:30am “Out for delivery” status. Finally, at 5:30, I checked again, only to find it had been “Stalled by disruption.”
Long story short, I finally got hold of the local Purolator office and was told “Oh, that’s strange. Let me look into it. Is there a number where we can reach you?”
Now, everyone’s packages are important, but the contents of mine were irreplaceable and critical to a time-sensitive project I’m in the middle of producing. I tried to remain calm and polite. A short time later, I received an apologetic call from the local depot. The woman had tracked down my parcel and put it aside for me to pick up this morning.
Aside from the fact that I’d paid handsomely for delivery, I was relieved to get the goods in my hands at 8am this morning, after more confusion amongst the attendant staff.
I feel sorry for front line workers who are struggling to handle the fallout from the Canada Post strike.
It was a lovely day for November, as I could see from my office window, but by the time I had chance to pursue a photo for Day 27, around 3pm, storm clouds had rolled in. Though I would have rather taken a nap, I grabbed my camera bag and headed for high ground.
I’m glad I did. After negotiating a diversion caused by a road closure. I ended up on the flanks of Mount Tolmie. I caught the last hour of light, making a half-dozen long-exposures among the oaks. The photo above is the first of those.
