I’m not a sunrise type of photographer; hell, I’m not even a morning person. But sometimes one has to suffer for one’s craft.

Photographers go on about the “Golden Hour,” the “Blue Hour” and so on. This assumes colour photography, I suppose. Today is the first time this autumn I’ve searched out fall colours.

This morning’s trip to Victoria’s Mount Tolmie was by way of a request from a follower, friend, and patron for “More vistas please!”

Once I was out of the house with the gear and up on the hill in the brisk morning air, I was quite glad I responded to the call.

To be honest, I missed the best of the light. Undaunted, I hurriedly set up the tripod and mounted the Fujifilm X-Pro2 — it being lighter and less cumbersome than the Nikon DSLR. A cloud moved in front of the sun, enabling me to make a series of exposures which I combined to make the panorama below.

Snap! Snap! Snap! I made relatively few photos, but decided to try for a panorama of the view southeast over Haro Strait and the San Juan Islands.

Later, on the southwestern promontory, I took in the view over Victoria itself as the sun lit up the buildings and a freighter, out on the Salish Sea.

I might take advantage of these post Daylight Saving mornings more often.
